Welcome to this issue of E-Bulletin.
Here at IAC we have been working hard over the past financial year by investing in our manufacturing capabilities here and overseas, and in continual quality improvements. In challenging economic conditions, solid foundations help weather the storm along but more important are loyal customers like yourselves who are very much appreciated. I trust that despite the credit squeeze your business has a healthy year ahead.
Here is just a taste of projects we have undertaken recently. We hope they make an interesting read.
Best wishes

FRENCH GIANT, AIR LIQUIDE CHOOSES IAC ENCLOSURES IN €1M CONTRACT
Air Liquide has awarded IAC Boët Stopson a €1M (£750K) contract for acoustical enclosures.
The substantial contract requires the design, supply and installation of a set of eight acoustical enclosures for compressors in three locations: one plant in Mons in Belgium and two others in France at Fos sur Mer and Dunkirk. These plants are built and operated by Air Liquide to supply their customers with compressed gas as a turnkey service.
The largest enclosure measures 20m x 11m x 10m high and they are all to achieve 71dBA at 1 metre from a 112dBA source. They are constructed using a large steel framework weighing over 100 tons, coupled with acoustic panels and a ventilation system.
David Berrier of IAC Boët Stopson said “The key to our success on this contract was our previous experience of design and project management on similar Air Liquide projects also the fact that we could offer a genuinely turnkey solution using our various European suppliers along with our site installation services. Our energetic sales approach meant we secured this contract within just a few days of receiving the initial enquiry.”
IAC Boët Stopson leads the European market in noise control solutions for the Power market.

IAC AVIATION TO UPGRADE ROLLS-ROYCE GEM FACILITY IN BRAZIL
IAC Aviation – a world leader in aero-engine testing – has clinched a major contract win from Rolls-Royce Brazil to undertake the GEM engine test facility upgrade at their facility in São Paulo, Brazil.
As the UK Ministry of Defence’s approved Design Authority (DA) for GEM engine test facilities, IAC Aviation was able to offer a minimal risk solution including minimising down time for this key facility.
The contract was secured against stiff opposition from several competitors.
Nick Smith, Aviation Solutions Business Manager, said: “Of course, this is a critical facility for Rolls-Royce Brazil so the project management parameters are highly demanding. As DA for the GEM we obviously have an in-depth knowledge and were ideally placed to offer an optimum and low-cost solution. We expect to deliver a first-class on-time contract.”

IAC SIM ENGINEERING HELPS DUNKIRK COMMUNITY MONITOR INDUSTRIAL NOISE
IAC Sim Engineering & Soft SAS (France) has developed a noise monitoring solution for residents in an industrial area near Dunkirk in Pas de Calais, northern France.
Since 2006 environmental protection agencies and the residents of the towns of Fort-Mardyck and Petite-Synthe near Dunkirk have been complaining of on-going noise nuisance from neighbouring industrial estates.
They jointly presented their complaints to their regional SPPI of Côte d'Opale-Flandre (Secrétariat Permanent pour la Prévention des Pollutions Industrielles). One of 15 in France, the SPPI is a voluntary body bringing together the joint interests of environmental protection agencies, local collectives, local government, manufacturers, experts, the media etc. It promotes good governance in managing such interests to benefit the lifestyle and health of local people.
The SPPI commissioned IAC SIM Engineering to design and install a network of noise monitoring and measuring equipment around the area, in order to record noise levels round the clock, 24 :7.
IAC SIM Engineering installed a system composed of seven ‘Monitoring IAC SIM’ sound stations. Each station comprises a microphone linked to weather monitoring software. Together they provide accurate real time calculations, store the data and communicate it back to a centre where the data is uploaded to a dedicated web page at www.dkbel.fr. Each sound monitoring station is enclosed in thermic- and weather-proof casing and is equipped with an emergency electricity supply.
This noise monitoring network allows local people control over measuring noise levels and to identify peak times. By consulting the relative web pages, local factories are then able to adjust their working patterns accordingly.
IAC SIM Engineering is a specialist provider of noise monitoring solutions to industry, local goverment and aviation throughout Europe.

IAC BUILDS ON ITS STRENGTHS AT AMERICAN ACADEMY OF AUDIOLOGY CONFERENCE, NORTH CAROLINA
This year’s American Academy of Audiology Conference (AAA) in Charlotte, NC was another successful exhibition for IAC America.
IAC made Best in Show for displaying a fully functional AccuTone™240a series, single-wall audiometric room.
IAC’s audiometric rooms provide the highest degree of sound isolation supported with NVLAP accredited laboratory-tested performance in accordance with the USA’s ASTM E956 room test standards.
IAC attends a number of shows for audiologists around the world every year.
Dominick Nardi, is Product Manager Audiology: “With the USA being such a large territory, Shows like the AAA are a great opportunity to get our technical sales representatives together, many of whom visited the stand this time, for some additional territory-specific support from the centre.
IAC America had an opportunity to talk directly with our end users and get feedback on the latest equipment we are offering. Feedback from Stand visitors is always useful in identifying how we as manufacturers, can provide even better support of our new products for today’s audiologists.”

FIVE-STAR LANDMARK HOTEL’S SPA GETS FIVE-STAR ACOUSTIC DOOR TREATMENT
An unusual, bespoke IAC acoustic door has been fitted as part of the extension of the Health Club and Spa at London’s five-star Landmark Hotel.
One of London’s most luxurious hotels, and a listed building, the Landmark is situated on the edge of Regent’s Park and with what is among the most expensive square footage in the UK, every foot of useable space in the building counts. Although the Spa is located in the basement of the hotel and next to a busy road, guests using the facilities would never know, thanks to a bespoke IAC acoustic door fitted to their four-roomed Spa Therapy Suite.
The specially-designed ‘escape’ door (in case that therapy has the ouch factor) opens to a height of 2.1m. The acoustic window above this, with specialist glass, allows the entry of natural light and gives a maximum height of 3 m. The design of the door was especially challenging as the contractors Cornhill Interiors stipulated that it had to match that of the very old door it was replacing, in line with the Landmark’s listed building status.
IAC has also fitted rooftop noise control solutions to air conditioning plant rooms at the hotel as part of what has been a multimillion pound refurbishment programme.

IAC AMERICA MAKES FOOD STORE NEIGHBOURHOOD-FRIENDLY
Harris Teeter’s latest addition to its food store chain, in Washington DC, USA, is protecting its neighbouring community from noise thanks to IAC America.
Harris Teeter operates 168 stores across the southern states of America. It vouchsafes not only to nourish the communities it serves but also to be a good ‘neighbour’. So they set about making their new outlet in Washington both aesthetically-pleasing and acoustically-friendly.
Along with their architects, Bonduarant Associates, they joined forces with Benchmark Construction, Acoustical Design Collaborative Ltd (ADC) and IAC America (through TechStar Industries), to achieve their objectives.
As in Europe, there are strict acoustic and aesthetic requirements for sites such as these to protect the local community from noise from air conditioners, pumps, compressors and fans.
In order to comply with legislation, noise analysis was carried out to determine the extent of the noise treatment required. On the basis of the results IAC America then designed and constructed an unobtrusive IAC Noishield® Roof Barrier and Cladding Panel System. TechStar Industries then installed the solution.
All IAC America’s Noishield® Roof Top Barrier and Cladding Systems are designed and pre-engineered to include structural steel and support systems. This installation consisted of panels and doors for required maint nance access. The barrier was erected to optimise sound transmission loss and provide sound absorption in a durable and attractive wall system in visual harmony with the surroundings. The factory-finished panels were 12.7cm thick and sound absorptive on one side. To this a powder-coated, perforated screen wall was added to match the trim of the existing building.
