IAC AUDIOMETRIC BOOTH FOR FIRST EVER AUDIOLOGY FACILITY IN THE GAMBIA

IAC Audiometric Booth for first ever audiology facility in The Gambia

Hundreds of children in Serrakunda in The Gambia, West Africa will benefit from the country’s first and only audiology facility thanks to an IAC audiometric booth being installed this month.

The new facility, at St John’s School for the Deaf, is being provided by SoundSeekers, the Commonwealth Society of the Deaf working in partnership with the Gambian government. It will be used to benefit children attending the School but also by SoundSeekers’ mobile treatment and assessment programme named HARK, which already runs In 6 other African countries.

An African child who is deaf and receives no treatment is often written off by families and communities, and they are unable to earn a living. Early diagnosis and treatment at the centre will make the difference between ostracism or integration in their community.

The audiology booth is being manufactured using IAC’s patented Moduline panel build system at IAC’s European HQ in Winchester, UK; the modular design then allows shipping in a container. An IAC Engineer will be sent to The Gambia in February to supervise its installation in conjunction with School staff.

When asked why SoundSeekers opted for IAC for the booth, Gary Williams, CEO said: “Our Technical Adviser to our Board of Directors here the charity was involved in the NHS for many years. She said that IAC has long been the leader in providing quality acoustic solutions - good enough for me!”

IAC were particularly pleased to assist and work with SoundSeekers again after a very successful two audiology room installation in Ghana previously.
